I Quit. Here’s Why.

And I built something I wish I had before I started

Hey there, freedom seekers! Your weekly dose of motivation, arriving right when you’re staring down that sixth Zoom call of the morning and wondering if life is just back-to-back meetings forever.

Remember: they can take our time, but they’ll never take our freedom.

This week’s rallying cry:

  1. I Quit. Here’s Why.

I Quit. Here’s Why.

In late 2022, I saw the writing on the wall.

I was burned out.

Chained to my WFH desk (sometimes a dresser, sometimes a couch), buried in Zoom calls.

Big Tech had overhired, layoffs were sweeping the industry, and for the first time in my career, I felt vulnerable.

No matter how good my performance was, the paycheck could vanish overnight.

That’s when a thought hit me: I’m not resilient if my livelihood depends on one company’s decision.

So, I started looking for a way out…something that could replace my income, make me financially resilient, and let me spend more time with my family instead of being a slave to a meeting schedule.

That’s when I stumbled across Buy Then Build by Walker Deibel, then Codie Sanchez’s work.

Their message clicked.

If I wanted freedom, I didn’t need to reinvent the wheel. I could buy a profitable small business from an aging owner ready to retire.

From there, it got real.

We put in offers.

We pushed a big deal all the way to the 1-yard line…tens of thousands spent on accountants, lawyers, even environmental assessments.

Nights and weekends were consumed with calls to bankers, SBA lenders, attorneys, and owners…while still juggling a full-time sales leadership job and three kids.

Last Friday, I made the leap.

To bet on myself.

I walked away from the corporate paycheck to go all in on this path: buying back my time and my freedom.

And here’s the thing:

As I’ve been texting with former colleagues and clients this week, I’ve been floored by how many people feel the same way.

Burned out. Stuck. Wondering if there’s another path.

So, I built something I wish I had when I started: a tool to help you figure out if this path is right for you.

and if it is, how to take your first steps.

Because if you’ve ever wondered what life looks like beyond the endless Zoom calls…this might be your ticket.

To freedom,

Matt
