I took my son to a business handoff... and this happened

I took my son to a business handoff… and this happened
This week, I want to share a little slice of the ongoing juggling act of being a dad of four (yep, all under seven!), homeschooling (my wife is a saint), and a slightly curious entrepreneur diving into a new business adventure. (Some times I ask myself do I love self inflicted pain…there has to be a word in German for this).
So picture this: my seven-year-old and I are on our way to meet the current owner of the business we’re buying. We had some “business” to take care of. Along the way, I hopped on calls with our lawyer and banker, and as soon as I hang up, my son is full of questions. He’s like, “Dad, why don’t you just work for the business instead of owning it?”
That kicked off this awesome conversation about what I actually do and why. I got to explain to him that my skills are a little more about strategy and helping the business grow, rather than just installing shower doors myself. And you know what? He got it! We turned it into a bit of a math game, figuring out how many doors a team could install in a day, and then chatting about balancing speed and quality.
It was a really cool moment of connecting the dots between business concepts and real-life skills—and a reminder to me that sometimes the best business lessons are the ones we stumble into while just hanging out with our kids.
So here’s to all of us learning and growing, and maybe even turning a few car rides into business school on wheels.
And a reminder of the real reason we make these decisions…for the ones we love. Cheers!
